See that guy?

I was walking to my (*gag*) job yesterday, and I saw this guy out on a ladder in front of Radio City Music Hall, changing the letters on the sign of who's performing a concert here.

It made me wonder if I'll ever see MY name up there! :-)

I hope so!

So excited!

I have the BEST friends ever! :)

My friend Sarah works at Z92.5fm in Kokomo, Indiana. She's having me call in tomorrow night and do a radio interview with me about life in NEW YORK, mostly about the fashion shows a few weeks ago, and funny stuff like that.

I'm SO excited, and I honestly feel like this is what I NEEDED in my life right now! Just a glimmer of getting to do what I LOVE to do and I am SO excited! This is going to totally get me through my day at work tomorrow, I just KNOW it!

Here's even better news: she's going to give a shout out to carminblinnonline.com to drive some more traffic to my website and get people to check out my music! AND she's going to play one of my original songs ON THE AIR!!!!!

I'm walkin' on sunshine...whoa! THAT's how I feel right now! :)

I'll post the audio clip on my website www.carminblinnonline so that you guys can hear!

PRAISE JESUS, this is GREAT!

Love you, Sarah! Thanks for helping to get me out of my FUNK this week! I'll be sure not to dissapoint!

Pants are SO 2008...

With the amount of Thigh-High boots we're seeing on the runways for the Fall 2009 shows, I am going to go out on a limb and be the first to say that Pants are officially OUT! I gotta get me some thigh boots! Now, where's my Suzanne Somers ThighMaster...

Also, check out this model (also rocking the thigh-high boots) in the Gareth Pugh runway:

hmm... looks a lot like the makeup I did for the Diesel xXx party back in September!

Geez, why does everyone have to COPY ME?!! lol

Katie Holmes has long hair again

Seems that just OVERNIGHT, Katie Holmes has grown 10 inch long, glossy brown locks. Hmmm...

Girl got a WEAVE! Check it out HERE

The weather guy wore the wrong colour tie!

His tie is the same colour as the green screen, so it looks like there's a hole in his chest!

Cardboard Fort

If I had kids, I'd buy them stuff from THIS WEBSITE. Why spend tons of money on that junky plastic playskool crap? The cardboard is way more fun, much cheaper, recyclable when they're done playing with it, and they get to design and paint it!

(Actually, I might buy the cardboard fort for myself anyway!)

Cake Wrecks

I love this website, CAKE WRECKS! It's a fun blog with photos of the ugliest, most deformed, misspelled, and downright unedible cakes that half-wit bakery employees screw up.

I love this one: I swear I would have bought it if I'd seen it in the bakery case like that!

Hilarious!

I love how he blames the guy HOLDING the board

I have a date with the KING of POP!

BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG!!!!

You may have heard of a guy named MICHAEL JACKSON?! He's only the greatest pop star that's ever LIVED! He announced that he's playing at the O2 Arena in London this summer, and THIS IS IT! This will be the last tour he ever does!

Dan and I LOVE music, and we love concerts- we've had this running list of artists that are on our "list" of concerts of artists that we consider the LEGENDS of music. So far the list includes:

Madonna (check! We've been to 3 of her concerts now)
Janet Jackson (check!)
Prince (check!)
James Brown (amazingly...CHECK! He performed at a private party for Diesel- his last performance before he died!)
Whitney Houston (still hoping she comes back)
Celine Dion (check!)
Elton John (still on the list)
Stevie Wonder

and, of course, the ULTIMATE is...MICHAEL.

When we heard about his concert, we vowed that we would pay anything to be there. Tickets went on sale at 3am NY time (7am London time) and we set the alarm to wake up. We registered for MJ's fan club and we got an exclusive pre-sale code to purchase tickets in advance, before they go on sale on Friday.

Ticketmaster CRASHED, and I thought all hope was lost...but then I got an email around 9am saying that Ticketmaster was sorry about the whole mess, and that pre-sale tickets were STILL available and would go on sale AGAIN!

I logged on and waited about 25 minutes before it finally went through...we got LEVEL 1 Seating in the 2nd section from the stage!!! OMG this is amazing! I seriously felt dizzy and my heart was racing as I typed in my credit card number. Is this really happening?! I'm really going to London to see Michael Jackson?!! AHHHHHH!!!!

So, yeah, you could say I'm pretty excited at this point. Dan is an even bigger Michael fan than ME (I was too young for Thriller, so I pretty much started discovering Michael in his BAD album, and even Blood on the Dance floor album a little later.) Dan remembers seeing Michael Jackson moonwalk for the first time in 2nd grade! He made his mom make him a sequin glove, and he would wear white socks with his black loafers!! So amazing, right?

Check out more info on this show of a lifetime at http://www.michaeljacksonlive.com/

AND, I highly recommend you watch THIS VIDEO of some of the highlights of his past concerts- make sure you watch it full screen. I'll probably have to be carried out on a stretcher like the girl who freaks out in this video!

Can you imagine just hearing that bass riff come in for Billy Jean?!
Smooth Criminal?
Beat it?
Bad?
Dirty Diana?

All the greatest hit songs- THIS IS IT!!!

Where'd she GO?

I know you’re annoyed that you’ve been checking this blog and no updates have been posted recently. Well, SURPRISE! Here’s a new post for you this morning!

Work has been busy- anyone who works in finance/accounting knows that the first week of the month, and the last week of the month are the busiest. That’s when month end financials are due, budgets and operating fund requests are submitted, bank recs, lockbox sweeps, all that fun stuff. On the plus side, it makes the days fly by faster!

We still aren’t having any sugar sweet warm weather here in NYC- winter has a tight grip on us this year. I am so sick and tired of winter coats, mittens, and boots- I just want to be able to walk outside without a coat on! Spring seems to be teasing us: we get a day of warm sunshine, and then the next day, it’s freezing cold and windy. Back and forth! I can’t wait until I can walk home from work through Central Park and see the kids playing on the playground, the green grass, people walking their dogs, and jogging through the trails. AGHHH!! Come on, Spring!

I did see more snow than I have in a LONG time this weekend, though: I was in Canada Friday through Sunday, visiting my family in Montreal. It was a great weekend- we went to see Slumdog Millionaire (I’d already seen it last year, but I didn’t mind seeing it again) and we ate homemade waffles, played wii, it was a fun weekend with my nieces Navy & London. I wish I saw them more often!

Dan stayed home this weekend to get some much needed rest. He’s off all week on vacation- I tried to persuade him to go to Miami, or someplace with lots of sun and sand, but he insisted that he just wanted to stay in NYC and relax; sleep in every morning and stay out late every night. Yesterday (after his first day off) he told me he was BORED and wished he’d gone to the beach! LOL ! I don’t have enough vacation time at my job to take random weeks off like that- Dan has something like 7 weeks of vacation, not including sick and personal days, so he doesn’t even ever use it all! Me, I get 10 DAYS. Woo hoo! (not so much…)

Last night, we went out to dinner at a fusion Latin/Asian restaurant 1 block from our apt called CITRUS (it’s fantastic!) and had a walk around the neighborhood. Then we had a serious Wii Tennis competition (I won!) and caught up on some TiVo from the weekend. It’s nice having him at home this week, and not working until 2am every night!

There you have it! Now you’re all caught up! See you soon :)

The future look of Bath tubs

Designers are coming up with SUNKEN bath tubs- it's going to be the next big thing! It gives you a peaceful spa-like feel to your bathroom. You will be able to choose round, square, or rectangular shaped sunken tubs with jets or with waterfall features like this one.

I love it when News Anchors can't hold it together!

A woman's butt implants gone wrong... and the news anchor who makes it WRONGER!

Don't crawl into a Bear Den without a tranquilizer dart...

Thanks to my Aunt BECKY, in Presque Isle, Maine for sending these amazing photos my way!

http://www.crownofmaine.com/paulcyr/stories/bear-monitoring-2009/

I want a baby bear! Oh, wait...nevermind!

I am NOT awake this morning

How did I manage to get mascara ALL OVER my hands while applying it to my eyelashes?! I am just not awake this morning! Geez, I think half the tube of mascara is on my fingers and embedded in my fingernails. ARGHHHH!!!!

Is it Friday yet?

bright purple

Last spring/summer bright and neon colours, especially pinks and oranges were in. I'm especially excited to try the mint green- LOVE IT!

Can you hear it?

Train Horns

Created by Train Horns

Clicking the audio file will produce a tone generally heard only by people under the age of 25. P.S., I'm not tricking you- it's NOT going to blast an air horn super loud at you or something.

I heard it, and it WAS super irritating to listen to! Can you hear it? Comment back if you did or didn't, and we'll see the results!

To me, it was a really high pitched squealing tone that was almost piercing and made me cringe. What did it sound like to you?

Calorie Counting

A law was passed last year in NYC that requires all restaurants or food service establishments that have 15 or more locations nationwide post the CALORIES for every menu item in plain view of the customer. For example, if you go to McDonalds in NYC, you'll see the calories posted on the menu in large font, right beside the price of the item.

The idea is, that if the consumer is more aware of how many calories they're consuming, they'll re-consider their food choice for a lower-calorie, more healthy item.

You know what I've found? It's TRUE! I was walking in Rockefeller Center to the subway, and the smell of Cinna-Bon drifted over to me. I walked over to the Cinna-Bon restaurant, and looked at the menu to decide what I wanted. Then, when I saw that a CinnaBon bun has 1100 CALORIES and 56 GRAMS OF FAT I turned on my heels and kept walking! That changed my mind in a second!

Can you imagine?! 1100 calories for a little snack while I'm walking to the subway?!

It's also helpful at Starbucks: now that I see that some of the drinks can be up to 500 calories, I've switched to drinking just regular coffe with Equal and soy milk. It's only $2.90 and it's less than 100 calories. This morning, at starbucks, I snapped a picture of the donuts as I was standing next to the case:

Don't you think that if YOUR town posted the calories, it would be helpful? I think this should be a nationwide law, not just NYC! What do YOU think? Would you like to see the calories up front before you order?

SEVERE WINTER STORM ADVISORY!!!!

NYC was warned by the national weather service that a SEVERE WINTER STORM warning was in effect from Sunday night through tomorrow at 6pm. I took a picture outside my office building (see the Empire State Building in the back?) of the storm this morning. THIS is what a severe winter storm looks like in NYC:

And, for comparison, THIS is what an everyday NORMAL winter snowfall looks like in CANADA, where my parents live:
This is a picture of the snow when opening the front door.

This picture is of the front porch, which is about 4 feet off the ground itself.
Again, NO winter storm advisory, no national weather service alert...just a typical day!
