Diesel:U:Music

Last night we went to Diesel's huge music party: Diesel:U:Music. The event takes place in cities around the world, and the last one in NYC was 3 years ago at the Roxy (it was amazing!) We were looking forward to hearing the Roots perform, and Kanye West actually got up on stage with them too! The Noisettes were one of my faves- great band. Rihanna was there, but I didn't see her (probably hung out in a dark corner of the VIP all night.) My husband, Dan was VIP but it we hung out on the main floor the whole time. It's more fun than sitting around with bored anorexic socialites beyond the velvet rope anyway!

Here's some pictures from last night!

Manhattan = Skinny?

In a study based on BMI, Manhattan is the thinniest county in the state of New York, and many say that Manhattan may be the thinnest county in the whole U.S!

Says one upper east-sider, "The smaller the dress size, the bigger the apartment!" Skinny gets you everywhere in this town!

Read this very interesting article from the New York Times (complete with height and weight of all those interviewed!) by clicking HERE

hola!

Hello, did you miss me? We were gone for a week in Dominican Republic. Jess & Steve were puttin' a ring on it- they're HITCHED now! We had a great time and as a lovely souvenir, I brought home an extra 7 pounds AND 3rd degree sunburns on my knee and hands! Don't believe me? Check out these huge blisters from sunburn where I missed a spot applying my sunscreen. Yup. That will definitely leave a scar!

Our suitcases are still unpacked and the laundry isn't done, but oh well. Unpacking from vacation is the WORST, isn't it? Good things still on the way, though: My brother is flying in from L.A. tonight and joining us for a concert and Diesel party tomorrow night here in the city. On Friday, we're driving up to the Adirondack mountains in up-state New York, and meeting 9 other family members driving down from Montreal. We're renting a big lakehouse for the weekend and going to Six Flags on Saturday! Me and Dan are in LOVE with rides and rollercoasters so we're really excited! Plus, I get to spend time with my 3 amazing nieces :)

Sad sad news

Just heard the sad news that Alexis Cohen, a memorable auditioner for American Idol, was killed in a hit and run on Saturday night. My friend Pam and I had a wonderful time with Alexis during the Season 8 auditions, and she really was a sweet girl.

Dan also met her coincidentally in early June in a bar in the East Village here in Manhattan. They exchanged numbers and we met up with her again in the Boston auditions when I went on June 12th.

What a tragic end to a life that brought a smile to so many. You can read the article describing her accident HERE

I hope they catch the driver that did this. How terrible to leave someone dying in the street and not even stop to help or call 911.

Lots of stuff this week!

On Saturday, we had a great time celebrating Cory's birthday here in NYC! We surprised her by taking her to Johnny Utah's: a western bar with a mechanical bull! It was hilarious and we all had a great time. We ate at one of our favorite AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurants in NYC: a tiny little-known spot called El Azteca. If you ever come to NYC, you MUST eat here! The guac was just unreal- so good and made to order. We like ours EXTRA spicy and they sure didn't dissapoint! I had fish tacos (my favorite thing to order there) and of course Dan and I had a pitcher of red sangria. MMMMMM!!!!

Sunday was spent walking through the park with Jess and Cory, and then to whole foods and finally lunch at Freddie & Pepper's ( again, you MUST get pizza here if you come to NYC!) The buffalo pizza slice is SOO hot I love it! And we ALL are fans of the BBQ chicken pizza! YUM!

Two days from now (on FRIDAY) Dan and I will be celebrating our SIXTH wedding anniversary! Can you believe it's been 6 years already? We take turns alternating who plans each year's anniversary, and this year it's MY turn. I've got a nice little surprise planned and I know he's gonna absolutely flip! Shhhhh! Can't tell you yet!

Watch this!

This guy does an amazing ragtime piano rendition of Michael Jacksons greatest hits! LOVE this!

Patches- the most hilarious horse ever!

This has been cracking me and Elizabeth up at the office for the past couple days! Oh, that Patches! What a character! And watch for the phone scene!

(PS- isn't it also funny that PATCHES the horse doesn't even HAVE any patches?)

Cory's bday party this weekend!

Since I am such an amazing friend ;) and Cory is such a fabulous lady, we're throwing a huge party for her birthday here in NYC on Saturday night! Can't wait to see ya tomorrow, Cor!

Jessica and Cory are both coming in to town from PA and it's gonna be a wild night! Look for pictures to come!

Not that Jessica, Cory, and I won't have plenty of girl time this month- we're going to Dominican Republic in 2 weeks for Jessica and Steve's wedding! A week at an all-inclusive resort, man that's gonna be a CRAZY time!! So excited!!!
Time to share a little update about our recent trip to Canada! We got to the rental car place on 77th street at 8am on Thursday morning to pick up the car. We had reserved an SUV because I would be driving the whole 14 hrs, and Dan wanted to be able to fold the backseat down, make a bed for himself with lots of blankets, and SLEEP! The lady at the counter told me that the regular SUV’s were all booked, so they were giving us a MERCEDES SUV! It was pimp! 2010 with only 23 miles on it! GPS, satellite radio, sunroof that went all the way in the backseat- just amazing! She said that normally, it rents for $498/day, but we only had to pay an extra $10! So YEAH!! Guess we cashed in some good karma points with that one!

We drove through to Beulah camp- and guess who was the speaker on the night we were there? Dr. Jim Lo! One of my professors from IWU! I sang in an acapella group with his two sons, Matt and Andre! What a small world, right? It was great to see him again and tell him all about life here in NYC!

Romeo and Prince, our 2 dogs traveled so well! They love going in the car, and even on long trips, they do great! They love to sleep in our laps. Such good little travelers!

On Friday morning, my nieces Navy, London, and I went to CJ 104.1 FM radio to make a special guest appearance! I did a whole hour with them during the morning show, and the girls got to sit right in the studio with us! It was really fun, and it went over really well. Apparently, I have quite a fan base in Woodstock NB! Richard and Jenn, the morning show hosts, are going to send some clips of the show for me to share with my readers here on this blog. Stay tuned!

On Saturday, we had my 10 yr. High school reunion! Wow- 10 years! I really haven’t even been back in town more than 1 or 2 times during that 10 years, so a LOT had changed! We had a good turnout for the reunion, and it was fun to catch up. It was great that my younger brother, Brad could be there too, and Dan and I were happy to hang out with him- he’s in the military, so it’s hard to get to see him sometimes! It was so great to be back in Canada, but everything has changed so much it’s hard for it to be familiar anymore. I kept getting turned around and lost!

We drove back to NYC on Sunday morning- the whole trip was only 4 days total, so it was a quick one. Well worthwhile, though! We made great time driving back down to Manhattan and when that beautiful skyline appeared ahead of us, we both got that feeling of “home.” That’s when you know that you’re really becoming a true New Yorker: when the sight of the city is welcoming and familiar. Man, I just pinch myself every time- it’s just an incredible blessing to be able to live in this amazing city. There’s truly nothing like it!

Um, yeah Celine Dion, you ARE bad!

I'm kind of ashamed to show you this video because I actually DO like Celine Dion, and I think part of being a Canadian citizen is taking some kind of oath that you will honor the flag and Celine or something like that... Anyway, here's Celine Dion BUTCHERING Michael Jackson's song "BAD", and what's REALLY bad is that she dressed up like him and somehow thinks that she can dance??? I..uh...just...well, there are no words, just watch!

Dan's Tattoo

Dan got a Michael Jackson tribute tattoo last week. Initially, he told me he just wanted to get an image of MJ's shoes with the white socks, doing the trademark "up on the toes" thing. He wanted it just on the inside of his wrist, about 2 inches big. Instead, we got to the shop and talked with our friend Dre, who's a tattoo artist and did Dan's chest piece last year, and he ended up getting THIS!

Dre went to work and there was no turning back! This is the signature silhouette of Michael in the Billie Jean performances- Dre and Dan decided that it would be cool to just trace the outline and not colour it in, otherwise it might just look like a big blob! The only thing that's filled in is the GLOVE, which Dre did a cool effect with white ink and grey to give it that effect of sparkling sequins.

Here it is when it was finished! It's still healing up now, but Dan's really happy with the way it turned out, and Dre said it was the very first Michael Jackson tattoo he's had a request for. I bet there will be more people coming in to get MJ tattoos in the next few weeks, though.

Happy Canadaday ( I like making that all one word...)

Celebrating Canada Day a little bit late, me and my nieces Navy and London went to brunch with my uncle Arnold. What did I order for breakfast? CANADIAN bacon of course, with pancakes and CANADIAN Maple Syrup!
